Paryushan Day 7 Report

Today was the seventh (penultimate) day of Derawasi Paryushan – a day for honouring the Tapasvis and a day for 108 diva arti.

Vinubhai welcomed Councillor Vina Mithani and thanked her for coming.

Kalpa Sutra: Today was last day of Kalpa Sutra Vachan at the Kenton Derasar. Vinubhai talked about post Diksha period of Mahavir Swami leading to his Nirvana with stories about His various disciples (Gandhars), including Gautam Swami. There were lots of one to one questions and discussions at the end. There were requests from audience for Vinubhai to give similar series of lectures on other Jainism topics on regular basis. MF committee will consider this suggestion. There was samuh chaitya vandan and arti/mangal divo after the talk. Prabhavna of ‘suko mevo' was given at the end.

Pratikraman

Today's pratikraman was sponsored by Late Mrs. Labhkuvar Raichand Mehta & Family (c/o Rohit Mehta) (£401) and representatives of Labhkuvarben's family started the pratikraman with three Navkars.

There are two sponsors for tomorrow's Savantsari pratikraman - Dr Gyandev Sheth & Family (£501) and Late Mrs. Labhkuvar Raichand Mehta & Family. The Pratikraman will start at 4:00 pm sharp and everyone is requested to take their seat by 3:30 pm to facilitate reciting of chaityavandan and the utcchavnis for pratikraman sotras. Doors will open at 3:00 pm. This timing is important because of the desire to finish the pratikraman before it gets too dark. The Pratikraman will be held at Kingsbury High School – use the Stag Lane entrance for the School car park.

Young mothers (and others), who are not able to do the 4:00 pm pratikraman because of baby sitting and other problems, could perform the Samvantsari Pratikraman at the Kenton Derasar. This will start at 12 noon sharp and you are requested to take your place by 11:45 am.

Arti/Mangal Divo

The highlight of today was 108 diva arti. Each arti-thali was for £11. The lights were switched off and the whole public joined in this graceful arti which was beautifully song by Ashishbhai Mehta. The whole atmosphere, which lasted for more than quarter of an hour, was electrifying.

Mangal Divo was taken by Mrs Vandnaben Ashvinbhai Shah. Ashishbhai recited mangal divo to the tune of ‘ajare pardeshi' ( Madhu mati film). All with 108 arti thalis were allowed to use them for Mangal Divo too.
